On track with Odoo...

In the fast-paced world of cloud-based business computing, getting a boost can make all the difference for a new implementation partner.  With help from our advisors at Thrive, Calibrate has been selected for the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) Accelerator programme.

With our team of experienced software specialists, we are busy mapping a road to success with the fastest growing Business Apps provider – Odoo.  The RBS Accelerator team are helping us to navigate our journey.

The RBS Accelerator: An Overview

The RBS Accelerator is an intensive, mentor-driven programme designed to help early-stage start-ups grow and scale rapidly and sensibly.  It's part of the larger NatWest Group Entrepreneurship offering which supports entrepreneurs and innovators in various industries.  The programme is primarily based in Scotland and draws talent and participants from all over the world.

Access to Expert Mentors:

One of the most significant benefits of joining the RBS Accelerator is the opportunity to work closely with seasoned professionals and industry experts.  The programme offers access to a network of mentors, and includes incredible success stories hatched on the Accelerator as well as a vast pool of experience in entrepreneurship.

These people provide invaluable insights, guidance, and connections to help you navigate the early steps of your journey.

Investment, Funding:

Entrepreneurs who have succeeded through Accelerator share their experiences on what went right and what they learned from their mistakes.  Now we all know that we should learn from our mistakes, but it is considerably cheaper and quicker to learn from the other people’s slip-ups.

One main area of interest here was gaining insight into funding and finance options, which we are looking into as we enter an exciting period of growth at Calibrate.

Market Validation:

Working with RBS and its partners gives us a check and balance in what we have done and what we plan to do.  They validate our ideas and business model, which is invaluable when seeking partnerships, customers, and additional funding outside the programme.

Peer Learning and Networking:

Being part of the RBS Accelerator also means you'll be surrounded by like-minded entrepreneurs and start-ups.  This environment fosters peer learning, collaboration, and networking opportunities.  Building relationships with fellow founders and industry peers is leading to partnerships, collaborations, and friendships.

The networking with fellow ‘Accelerators’ is fantastic, and we set up a WhatsApp group to share ideas and help each other.  A company of Landscape Gardeners had a late project cancellation, and looked to the team for assistance on finding a replacement project.  Other helpful examples have been office and land rental, sharing of redundant office equipment, and a social spirit that helps overcome a lonely business start-up feeling – ‘you are not alone’ makes you feel that you are part of something bigger.

What to Expect When Joining the RBS Accelerator

Joining the RBS Accelerator is a competitive process. The application involves pitching your proposition to a selection panel, who assess its viability and potential impact. Once accepted, here are a few things we are looking forward to:

  • Intensive Workshops:  participating in a series of workshops and training sessions to help refine business strategy, improve our offering, and enhance our pitch.
  • Mentorship:  matching with people who can help us get there.
  • Networking:  with ample opportunities to network with industry experts, potential customers, and investors, both within and outside the programme.
  • Access to RBS Resources:  We have access to RBS's vast resources, including data, premier meeting and event locations, and infrastructure, which will be instrumental in developing and scaling.

Being selected for the Accelerator is helping Calibrate grow quickly with the confidence that help is there when we need it.
